Okay, after I feed Jetsam, he hangs down from his area where the rear part of his body is jammed into. He makes me think he is dead every time! Are eels like loaches, and are just lazy, and will lay in weird positions when resting?

Should I be concerned? How do I know if the food item is too big? I make the slivers of fish about 1/4"x1.5"

I'm not sure how long he is...maybe a little over a foot? Before I got him, he was fed only frozen krill, and has taken the tilapia without a fuss. He won't feed from tongs, but I put the food near an opening where I know he is hiding, and when I come back, the food is gone. His girth is thicker than a sharpie marker, but smaller than a large highlighter marker. I have been feeding him one piece per day.

if he is in pure fresh water that might be why snowflake eels(gymnothorax tile) and gymnothorax polyuranodon are brackish morays from south east asia and do better in brackishy water 1.005 and 1.010 sg and yes it sounds odd since i own one they shouldnt act like that unless hes trying to fool prey

No, he is in brackish water, 1.012 SG
I just got him this past Saturday from someone who never changed their water (stinky tank x100000)

I wonder what's wrong with him then. I've heard the adults are almost marine SG (i.e. 1.024)

Probably an issue acclimating into his new water... A fish that is "used" to "dirty" water can go in shock when moved into "clean" water too quickly.

He didn't start doing this until a couple days ago, I've had him for almost a week. Is it possible he just can't fit his whole body in the hole he chooses to hide in, and just rests however the rest of his body lays? He's still eating, moving around the tank at night exploring.

Am I feeding too much/not enough/too big food item? I really haven't been able to find any detailed information on the specifics of how much/how often. I try to make the slivers of fish about the size of a feeder fish I think he would eat (guppy, molly, etc.)

He eats every day, lol. I just can't be watching while he does it! I'm sure with time he'll get used to the hustle and bustle going on around the tank, adjusting to the new surroundings.

I just worry that him laying limp from his hiding spot means something is up.

You should be feeding your eel 2-3 times weekly they can go weeks without eating i feed my yellowhead shrimp and silversides
