Was thinking of getting one single eel for a while...and then maybe add something in the future.

Are these things hard to keep? What sized tank would you recommend? LiveAquaria says their care level is easy and they only need a 50g, tho I'm not sure how much I can trust em :screwy:

They are easy to keep, have great personalities, and mine will eat anything given to him. They will eat smaller fish. Also, be sure you have a tight fitting lid and all of the cracks and holes are filled up, so there is no chance of escape. I had a foot long snowflake some how get through a hole on my 28 biocube where the pump cord went into. Have no idea how he(about as big around as my thumb) got through a hole smaller than a pencil. Also, true with any eel. I had a 130$ 2ft long white mouthed moray get out of my 100gallon. Have no idea how he got out. With any eel, escape routes must be blocked. The same snowflake that died from getting out of my biocube had gotten out 2 or 3 times that I was able to safely put him back in the tank because my roommates left the top open to feed them. You would think they learn.

That sucks :(

Thanks for the help though :)

Couple of things to look out for. I was feeding my 12" guy once a week and he had taken to hiding food under a rock. After he escaped I rearranged and found 3 weeks worth of food. 50 will be good for likely his entire life, but I've seen them break 3ft long in 100 gallons.

Ive been thinkin about gettin a eel myself when my tank is est. enough to handle one. My kids want a couple clowns in the tank as well, so besides a snowflake eel, whats the next eel as far as not eatin smaller fish goes. Or is that just the nature of all eels?

I wouldn't put a fish in with your eel that is even questionable. my moray will eat anything he wants. he ate a dragon fish when he was small and he has also eatin a couple of my roommates fish. So be careful what you put in with him

When it comes to fish compatibilty for me it's come down to what can go with my Angler not my Eel.
