hey guys, im about to set up a saltwater tank and im thinking about getting a snowflake moray eel. what would be some good tankmates with him? are they hard to keep? any info will be awsome!
thanks
Matt

as i read in your other thread that this will be a 20 gallon tank i would have to say any tankmates would be too much, anything that would be small enough to not have much bioload would be too small and would wind up lunch

well there only about 4 inches long at the LFS near me. and he wouldnt be in there long term

If he's not going to be in there long term then have your upgrade ready soon so you don't procrastinate like most people do, I'm guilty of it too so I'm not calling anyone out. "I'll get a bigger tank sooner or later" Doesn't really cut it when the eel's growth will be stunted from being cramped in a 20 gal.

If you're going to keep him in a 20 gal for a short period of time, don't keep tank mates with him until he's in his new tank. He may feel like his small space is being invaded and eat/attack the tank mate(s).

EDIT: If you're putting him in a 20 gal. Make sure you have good filtration, that's a small volume of water for the waste it could put out when it's larger.

Essentially +1 to Tom.

We cant stop you, but ideally you would start with a 55g. I know that most people say that is the minimum, but if I ever had the desire to keep one it would be in at least a 75g.

+1 here.

Why even set up a 20 gallon if you are going to go bigger "soon." The tank will be needed very quickly anyway, might as well set up the bigger one now and then get the snowflake.

^^
If your worried about them selling quickly and just want it before they are taken , your not missing out. Im sure your lfs will order it for you. Also you could get one online at a couple of sites for possibly cheap but shipping is a B*%*
Point is be patient. Or like they said, you will be frustrated.
And also make sure you have a cover, they are very sneaky and will find a way out of the tank.
Make sure your filtration has covers on them, filter can suck one up. happened to me in front of my eye but i pretty much dived in the tank to cut him loose.
You could use alot over things to provide hiding spaces, at a small age they will spend most of there time hiding all day untill night comes when they will roam.
Get it used to your hand by hand feeding. So later on when its long as your arm and you then decide you want to hand feed it can be risky.
anything else?
