So when I first got into rays I heard people talk about snow leopards and had no idea what they were. I had a friend mention that he wished he would be able to get them so I told him I would look into it for him.

after extensive research I realized that they were stupid hard to find. Almost no one knew anything about them except they want them and are way to expensive to even try.

it took me a while to figure things out but I somehow by a miracle was able to track down an old member here Calgary flames who was the first to breed them in captivity. I saw an add on kijiji and he happened to be selling some media that I wanted so i picked it up and asked him how to get in contact with the mysterious snow leopards. He gave me a contact of the person who had his old stock.

after many months of building friendship with the new owner/breeder I was able to pull a trio from his pups.

I was super nervous about posting this crew until after I finished my move.

I’m not really superstitious usually, but I didn’t want to post about them and have them die on me during the move.

these pups are f2 pure bred snows. The grandmother took 5 years in captivity to turn white, but she was/ is a stunner of a white ray. I was fortunate enough to see her in person. I also saw the parents of my rays, and some of the uncles aunts etc.

These rays are incredible. Not like any other ray I have seen to date. Very stalky and muscular almost like a pit bull type body. The gap between the eyes is huge with really big eyes. When I first saw them I thought they were malnourished because of a caved in forehead, but realized it’s just how they look.

I had a friend take care of these stingrays for me while I was moving and when I delivered them to his place, I found out that he was one of the original guys who bought the first batch that came into Canada however many years ago. Funny how small the “ray world” is. He was very gracious with me regarding the move and the fish room taking forever to get up and running.

I am happy to say that the trio has made it here and are all eating well and ready to start growing. They are roughly 1 year old now so should be mature this time next year, hopefully I can keep them alive that long lol.

I am male heavy in my stock so I am lightly considering letting one of the males go, but I’m not going to lie, I really like them both and may want to just add more females to the mix:naughty::drool:

Haha thanks everyone.

these rays have been a bit of an obsession/ passion for almost 2 years now so it is neat to finally see them in person and learn about them. Hopefully can de mystify some of it through personal experience.

those otorongo’s of yours are pretty mint as well. I had a pair of them, along with some other rays disappear on me. We had a full box of rays and no one found them in the end. So at some airport between here and Peru there is a nasty box of rays rotting in bags:barf:

cant wait to see your updates on the new set up/ talk about jealousy lol.
