I went to Petco last week and lo and behold all say twelve tanks of goldfish had either dead/dieing fish. It's was like seeing a battlefield! And all of the ones that were dieing had their eyes staring out like they were saying save me...
Rather horrible.
Anyway, I'm wanting a pair of ADFs and of course they are the only ones who sell them. Petsmart has been out of stock for god knows how long and the local stores around here don't seem to carry a large stock of anything other than saltwater.
The only other store is a local fish store that carrys mostly saltwater and everything freshwater is in horrible condition! Ick, fungus, way too much algae, eaten fins, it's just horrible. Why is it that mainly saltwater fish are taken care of? Is this just a trend that I see?

not the case. I have at least 5 LFS who have excellent FW stock
and can custom order just about anything legal
One of them just started carrying SW after buying a larger building
idk what this Petco you are talking about

You don't know what Petco is? I thought it was a national chain.

I guess its just my luck. In my old town, before college, we had just a Petsmart. Here, there are multiple but almost all are completely saltwater. I guess freshwater isn't a big seller?
And all the people I have met only have saltwater. I need to start a revolution here! haha

petco hires people who can serve customers well, take care of animals after. luckly, the one i work at did the opposite with me.

saltwater fish are imported more delicately when compared to freshwater fishes so there is less initial stress. and once in a stable system, saltwater fish normally take care of themselves.

What size is your city?
I don't have to shop at Petco so I don't
DrFosters gets me all that the LFS can not (for the price)

I live in a capital city. Petco has the worse quality fish I have seen. Poor genetics, and poorly taken care of fish. Petco does have a good selection of aquarium accessories like fake plants and wood and rocks, But wouldnt consider purchasing anything other than dither fish there regarding livestock. I dont support stores like this, Which is why I like the mom and pop fish stores who care about their products and cares about the business, these are getting harder to find anymore.

It is a trend.. SW and FW bounce back and forth as which is "cooler" .. those passionate about the hobby and their favorite aspects of it stick threw the trend swings ime. LFS cater to the majority not the minority. The majority unfortunately can't make up their minds.. which is prolly a good thing in general for the hobby itself. But annoying at times. I still get people who come in.. and want "Nemo" and expect to take the fish, tank, ect all home and set it up like a gaming system. But I'm also seeing more interest in the FW oddballs, Cichlids are becoming alot less popular and planted tanks, fw inverts, "nano" species, are becomeing more desired. As are larger species.
