Anyone else having problems keeping their tank temps down in this heat? My whole family is gone during the weekdays and everyday I've come home to my tank being around 83-85 degrees Fahrenheit and i'm worried for the sake of my fish. I get home around 6 so I assume that it probably hit its peak heat around 3 or 4, which means it could have been even warmer. Does anyone else have this problem?
running an open-top tank made a big diference for me in Florida . . . glass covers prevent evaporation, but increase heat . . . switching to open-top dropped my temps easily 5-degrees immediately . . . open-tops also make it more effective when using a fan to cool the water
if you're worried about fish jumping out, you can cover the tank with light-diffusing ceiling panels (buy 'em at Home Depot/Lowes)
83-85 is not a problem unless you have cold water fish...
surface agitation is the best way to keep water oxygenated.. air pumps and powerheads do a good job..
ive got an outdoor tank that by this afternoon will be somewhere around 96 degrees.. ive never had fish grow so big so fast as they do in that tank durring the summer.. (guppies, platties, mollies, cherry shrimp and lots of plants)
84F is nothing. My tank is about 97F and the fish are ok. I have two powerheads in there to keep the bubbles circulated. Reducing lighting use would help drop a few degrees.
