I see my indos hiding almost 24/7 under the heater. For other people as well as my fish store, I see them have blue backs and the dats are constantly active.

maybe because they are hungry and waiting on food since at a lfs they dont get fed as much as you would feed them

All 20 of my larger ones are on a black background, black bare bottom and none of them hides LOL. They're all begging for food 24/7

Dat's stableness and being active depends on how comfortable they are with their surrounding. I have had all these guys for at least 2 years, some longer. all of them are always stable 24/7. I have ST's IT's, NTT's and NGT ranging from 9 - 17"

I have my heater in horizontal position and my baby dats hide under their almost all the time. I have 26 pieces. black back, natural gravel, hob filter. Is there anything Im doing wrong? I have had them for well over 3-4 weeks

I just moved my 5 small indo's from a clear back 10g (connected to a 20g), to my 60g black back. Both bare bottom but with driftwood, rocks, and fake plants. They hid more in the 10g but not always and would come out for feeding. Now in the 60g they swim around the tank without hiding no noticable change in stability (4 stable 1 unstable).

I defintely did notice alot more chasing and niping in the 10g space was cramped and there was disputes over territory.

I think its also a matter of individual dat behavior. I have three 6-7inch dats (AT, IT, NTT) in a blue back, black sand, aquascaped 4x2x2 and the NTT hides, AT hides 50/50, IT (new to tank and doesnt hide). My NTT always ate sparingly, AT is a pig. The AT and NTT i've had for over a year in multiple setups and they've acted the same.

AT and NTT were always stable. New big IT stable so far.

Thanks for the advice guys. I guess I will have to try putting them into a bigger tank. It may be the tank space in this case...

Mine seem to never hide and id like to no why ive had alot of datnoids and theyve all hid on me but when i cleared my tank out and put only 8 fry indos in there they all are stable and swim around alot. i dont no what im doing but i wish it could figure it out so all the dats i get act the same

are they active with lights on or off? Cuz mine are only active when the lights are off..

My Dats run and hide when the tank light is turned on. They seem to prefer dim lit tanks. So a little light won't freak them out.
