Just got back in from the LFS I go to if I'm not ordering fish online and they got in some new GT's on Thursday evidently. He doesn't get them in often, oddly enough, and when they do come in it's usally of the gold saum vareity. The silvers that come in usually don't make it because theya re so beat up. Anyhow, I just got back and they had a nice silver saum that I went ahead and snatched up for $9. I'd say he's maybe 4" right now? That may be generous, I'm not sure. He's still drip acclimating to the 10g QT right now so I'll snap pics later so I can get a positive ID. It was hard to tell because of the lighting in the tank he was in. The other GT's didn't appear to have much coloring on their fins, and the bit I could see was silver but with an orange hue so I assumed it would be the gold saum when they weren't stressed out and colored up. I'm seriously hoping this fellow I got is the silver saum. I'm gonna have to wait a few weeks for my escondido to catch up a bit in size before I put him in the 75gallon.

I had to post since I'm so stoked right now. Wife just looked at me like I was a kid just coming home from the candy store. I know the fish is common for a lot of people, but it's been my unicorn for a few months now. Impossible to find here locally.

Huge congrats to you! I know exactly how you feel!!! LOL Post up when hes feeling more at home.

Ok, so now I feel like a grown man wanting to cry. it really looked silver in the store, but now that I have him alone in a tank, it looks like some color is coming back to him. And it's too much color :( it's looking pale orange finnage now instead of the silver but in some pics it's not. The colors are a bit washed out I apologize due to the flash.

Here they go anyway. GOld or silver? male or female? Quality of fish?

thanks :(

I would say male, decent quality! I would let him calm down before you make any judgment calls on him though. Stress can make a fish dark.

I was thinking male as well simply because it looks like he's getting some trailers now. I'll try to get some more pics of him later on this evening and hopefully he will have mellowed out some. With the tank light off, he's all over the place exploring, but the moment I come in and turn the light on, he runs back to the back behind the log/heater/pvc elbow until I at least turn the light off again. I through in a few sinking pellets and he showed some interest but not a whole bunch right now.

Sorry it looks like a gold saum to me. Those edges are gonna turn bright orange eventually.

yea I had a sick feeling in my gut when I got a better look at the pics and saw those tinges. Kinda irritates me because there was a younger one, maybe by about 1/2 an inch that had much much more color than this guy has right now

Looks Gold to me too. Bummer, I don't come across many silvers either. I thought Rapp's had some Riverine GT's on his web site maybe you could check those out. I never see them anywhere else. Just a thought.

Shipping from him is horrendous, for me. it's nearly 100$ for shipping + boxes + whatever else he charges for. I try to stick to the florida vendors as it's usually only about 20$ for shipping and usually next day.

Thanks for the looking out though; preciate it.
