Aquariums and photography are two hobbies I really enjoyed in high school and ended up getting away from. I stopped keeping fish because I became frustrated. I was of the school of "fill and kill" and never seemed to be gaining much knowledge. Photography because someone convinced me it was no career etc. etc. He only meant well but he was wrong.

20 something years later I recatch the Fish bug, but theres a difference now. Now we have the internet. I have gained more knowledge on fishkeeping in the last year than I did in the 5+ years I kept fish the first time. I can still take a decent photograph although I became a slave to auto settings. Then I tried to take a picture of my fish...and then I tried again, and again, and again. Its not that easy. I decided that I would get my tanks set up the way I wanted them, I'm working on a Lake Tanganyika 55g setup at the moment, and then I would come over here to learn how to photograph my fish.

Meanwhile I have viewed alot of pictures from your members at Tropicalresources.net and have been very immpressed. Then the other day I heard of APF's "incident" so I figured I would show my support by registering. I'm looking forward to learning from APF.

BTW, I have a Canon A80 digital, a Minolta 7000 I bought in 1985 that still works well, and a Kodak Retina my father bought in Europe in the 1950's. The latter is still in great shape only some damage to the leather case. It even has a light meter. I have not used it for about 15 years though. I'm hoping to use my A80 for fish just because the digital is easier to post with.

My avatar is my current ability, if I get better I will update it. Thats my A. Compressiceps, he's a little moody.

Ken, Welcome to APF. In the age of internet, it's the BEST resource online for aquatic photography. Read through other peoples' questions in Photography 101 and everywhere else, including the articles.

I think you're right about going down the digital road - and I hope your Tanganyikan tank project provides plenty of interesting subjects and opportunities. Welcome to APF!
