My Nitrates are typically 20-40 ppm(from the tap 24 hours aged with an air stone and dechlorinated with amquel + . I finally broke down and called the water department about it. They said that they had tested a month ago and it was 26 and that was the highest they had seen  I told them it was dangerous above 20 and they admitted to that. Also they agreed to come test the well that serves our neighborhood.
What should I do about this ?

let them do their test, but keep on them about it.
Communicate by email and if they admit to it being dangerous you'll have documentation. If they don't take care of it, submit it to the news.

That response is exactly why I ask MFK for help. This shall work she asked for my email. Ill ask for hers when she calls back. Ill stay on them because this is ridiculous. LA has better water than us

Precisely. Here in Pensacola years back, some of the chemical plants in the area were not taking care of their waste water properly. There were sporadic pockets where animals and children had accelerated tumors and cancers for their ages. Come to find out the water company had been ignoring/hiding complaints about water tests and tastes because someone on the board was in bed with the chemical companies getting a nice penny from it.

I'd submit it to the news whether they change it or not. This kind of thing needs to be made known, and often can uncover a bigger issue,

Thanks for the encouragement. I am gonna start recording our phone and email correspondence

PS Please don't start referring to me as Erin Brokovich lol

Remember to talk nice, play a little ignorant (not stupid), show just enough concern for your fish that they think that's all you know (don't mention your health concerns ;)). It called leading them into a false sense of security.
