Well temporarily at least. Sold my 5D today. Brand new bag of tricks coming up in the next few days/weeks. I am going over to the Dark Side :)

About time!!

D700?

Mike, I wish, D300 for me. Limited budget, whatever I sell is what I have to buy new stuff. And Nikon stuff is so much more expensive for the same things.

BTW, for those who see it as a slight on Canon, nothing like that at all. I am very OCD and I have been using Canon for years, now it's time to try something new. I dont think one brand is better than the other. I think they are both excellent and I just want to play on the other side of the fence.

Oh, and the prospect of a 105mm VR Macro is VERY appealing :)

LOL LOL .... I can't believe it ! Are you serious ? With new 5D on the market you are jumping the ship ? Don't see the logic. New 5D will revolutionize photography ... at least that is what they say.

I thought I saw your post on Nikon Cafe. Was it you ?

I agree, they both have comparable offerings and keep trying to one up the other guy (which is good for us)!

I also own a 5D, I bought it solely to mount some of my, non-Nikon, manual lenses. Canon is the best for compatibility with other manufacturers.

The 105mm VR is a nice lens :-D

Jay it was me. Look me up on AIM tomorrow, we'll talk, or call me up on cell when you have time.

The 105 VR micro nikkor is a brilliant lens, and Nikons wireless flash capabilities (make sure to pick up at least two SB600's) offers quite some options other manufacturers only offer using a bunch of extra hardware.

Still though, giving up a smallfilm sized sensor is quite a gamble.

As for brands, I've started out with Canon, swapped to Nikon in the late 1990's and stuck with them because of the F mount. None is better then the other but Nikon allowed me to work on a budget using manual focus lenses durng my student years. I still use the 55 Ai micro and 80-200 Ai f4 with PK-13 in combination with my D200 with good results. Some of these old lenses work well with digital as long as you keep away from wide angle.

It's a see saw thing and they[N & C] want our money really bad with all these new cameras. :-D

It's weird that I'm 'upgrading' to a D90 soon. D200 looks more solid IMO. I'm only doing it for the low noise performance and video function. After that it would be sometime before I need another one.[in the mean time at least ]
