My first thought was OK, it's huge...Not sure what else I expected.
I opened the box up, took out the manual the size of a typical mail order catalog. Flipped through it with my fingers and decided this filter is less plug and play then I thought. Find I need actual tools to put this filter together and it needs to be specially placed not too close or far from the aquarium.
So I am feeling a overwhelmed by this new filter right now.

Yea it did come with a big manual, but really not that bad. Just remember to read through and see how much water you need to add before plugging it in. I think it's a couple gallons to get it running. Other than that i don't think there was that much assembly to it, other than measuring the hoses and cutting them to the right length and putting the hose ends on right.. I have 2 of them and totally worth the time and $$.. :)

And how is this DIY?

The FX5 only looks complicated.

FX5 is soo easy! After the easy set up you have already become a expert on fluval fx5s. very easy to use
