hey guys,

I searched and called all day today with no luck. I'm trying to find a moving company who can move a 450g glass tank for me. The tank is 8x3x2.5H, and it comes with a metal stand. The thickness of the glass is 3/4", so just the tank and stand would weigh close 1000 lbs. You figure each big moving guys can carry 150 lbs or so, so I would need at least 6 big guys. Most of the moving company I called don't move single items. One company suggested hiring a trucking company. I'm in LA, moving the tank from Chatsworth to West Covina. Could someone point me in the right direction?

Thanks in advance.

Have you tried CL?

I'm using machinery movers tomorrow at work. I'll ask him if he's interested and get you a ball park figure. It's not gonna be cheap though.
You could always pickup day laborers st home depot.

I have, but most of them don't do fish tanks... I will keep on looking though. thanks!

oh! that'll be great! thanks so much! I know it's gotta be really expansive...maybe I will really have to resort to day laborers...the only thing is that I don't want them to damage the tank

Can you find a bunch of friends and rent some of those glass movers suction cups. Are you having to go up or down any stairs and how large of doors will you have to go through. About 8 big guys should make your move not that bad. If you can find those heavy duty glass movers suction cups get 2 for each person. The stand will feel light after the tank. Good luck can honestly say I don't envy you.

As the owner of a moving company I can tell you its not worth the money for a moving company to move something like that. We have to charge a set hourly rate generally. For me to do a job like that I'd only get like $125 / hr (possibly more for extra help) and at most I could probably set a 2 hour minimum. Pricing is dictated via the household carriers bureau. The liabilty is far too high to be worthwhile. I would agree with calling a trucking company, they operate at a different pricing structure.

MFK Fam could come down to help!!! I got furniture movers and stuff. Go to home depot to see if you can rent a flatbed(my friend told me she only paid $20 a day). I know a 240 is nothing compared to a 450g but 8ft glass is still heavy hahaha. if its possible to roll it around. that what i did. GLuck though!!!

I moved the a glass tank that same size a few years ago. There was 8 of us and the steel stand was bolted and siliconed to the tank. It was a process of carry 5 or 6 feet set it down and rest. Over and over until we got it to the trailer. I would recommend a trailer instead of a flatbed so you don't have to lift as high. Once it was at my house, I bolted large casters to the stand and rolled it in place. Then jacked up each end and unbolted the casters. Was easy to move once I had it on casters. If you do it yourself it won't be fun, but it is doable.
