And the dugouts are down in the ground and there are bathrooms in the dugout. Well I go in to relieve all the Gatorade I'd been drinking and what do I see.. A little 7-8" long snake. Not sure what it was but it had a pattern and it coiled up in a striking position in the corner. Didn't have time to grab my camera phone but I told everyone on the team to watch out, especially my kids as they were in the dugout with me :nilly:. The next inning we looked for it again and it was gone. Had to be in the dugout somewhere cause it wasn't big enough to make it up the steps. Anyway that was my experience last night lol.

I'm sure it was probably something harmless, but it was good of you to warm the team and I'm glad no one decided to kill it.

We have lots of copperheads around here so that would be my first guess.. but no clue as it was too dark to tell for sure, just could barely make out the pattern on it.

Oh well that's not good. I'm sure you know then what a copperhead looks like but just for a reference for everyone, here's what a baby looks like. A good field mark to identify a baby is by the yellow tip of the tail which they use as a caudal lure. They wiggle it around like a worm to attract prey within striking distance.

Haha, very true. I almost suffered a mild electrocution (not that dangerous, I've gotten zapped the past 3 days from it for different reasons) yesterday going after a northern water snake while electrofishing (for a field class). He managed to make it under a rock and I couldn't see him in the murky water. If you've never risked minor personal injury going after a herp, you're not die hard-lol

i was on state route 41, the highway into yosemite national park, and stopped southbound traffic to catch a rattler in the road. all i had on was boxer shorts due to the fact we were at a mountain creek looking for herps.
