OK, after weeks of indecision i have finally convinced myself to pick up a TSN, its going to be my first big catfish and im pretty excited about it, its to be kept in a 6x2x2 and i can upgrade later if need be

in AUS these fish are incredibly hard to come by and also very expensive i have only seen 1 in the flesh, it is just 4" and priced at $350  my mate at the lfs has knocked it down for me to $300, but i still gotta save for 3 weeks to pay for him

i have done a lot of reading into tankmates and the only advice i can find is that they need to be bigger than the TSN's mouth, is it possible to keep this fish with large americans eg: Oscar,Jag,GT+Texas??

also what should i be looking for in a healthy specimen

all advice is welcome - thanks

Cograts! :headbang2

Once I get much more space and money I plant to build an aquairum large enough to house a RTC or TSN along with some other large fish.

I have heard the the TSN's can grow quickly, so personally I would not take the risk. Good luck and I look forward to photos if possible.

good luck with him
take a look athis barbels, his colors and fins.
usually they are nacturnal, and almost don't move during the day.
he may take sometime till start eating in is new home.
but they sure are nice cats to heve, I got 2 (but here he's a lot cheaper, about $ 3 dollars each at 3")

if you really paid that much for him, then i wouldnt risk any tankmates. some could hurt him at such a small age:)

350$!!!! i guess you dont have to worry about those impulse buys in australia.

I am raising one now. They can eat tremendous amounts of feeders. Try an get it to eat pellets and such at a young age. They grow fast and will eat any fish that fits in it's mouth. Believe me that mouth will open wide!

nice pick up mate, i just picked up an RTC at 10cms for $350!!!
His tankmates are 1 x Silver Arowana, 3 x Peacock Bass Mono's.
Im pretty sure you can keep your TSN with anything that wouldnt fit in its mouth, so Oscars and other big americans would be agood choice.
