Hello all, I was led to this site from yahoo answers cuz some people said this was where to come to for a tank like how I want. I haven't exactly decided how big I want it, but I know I want it somewhere between 400-1800 gallons. So anywhere from 6x3x3 to 10x5x5 sounds good to me. This tank will sit outside on the ground (dirt). I already have 20 Tilapia (from 1 inch to 3 inches in length) but I also want to put in these species: Koi, Redtailed Catfish, Axolotl or Bichir (whichever fits better if they can fit at all), Shark Tooth Clams, Regular Clams, and a few Royal Plecos, Zebra Hypancistrus, and Leopard Plecos.

I havent decided if I want it exposed to direct sunlight, what do you guys think is best? Any ideas would be great, as this is all just a rough sketch and although I have been in fishkeeping for 8 years now, I've never done anything like this.

I read up on how to build a tank, it seems easy enough, but then I thought of making all sides but the front concrete and then having a glass front so it can be viewed from sitting or standing directly in front of it. I have no idea how this could be accomplished but it seems like the easiest way (and safest). Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thx.

Welcome. There are currently some issues with the attachments on the server. We are working to correct this issue.

There are tons of design and members who have built large tanks, unfortunately at the moment, you cannot see a lot of them.

You could easily build a tank with three sides being concrete and then one glass panel. you just have to reinforce and fill the concrete blocks and then seal them with a pond coating of some sort. Then you can just seal in the viewing window.

Hello Pharaoh, what do I have to do to be able to see those members?

I was thinking more along the lines of kinda freestyling the concrete, instead of using concrete blocks (by freestyling I mean using wood supports as like a container, pouring the concrete in it and letting it dry so the sides are all 1 solid piece). Which do you think is better?

What is a pond coating and what does it do? Would it in any way affect the visability of the front glass? How would I seal the glass to concrete?

Well, typically all you need is 5 post, but until the attachments are fixed, you are out of luck as is everyone else.

Pouring a solid form would be just as effective if not better. Either way will work. Go with whatever is cheaper as they will both be plenty strong enough.

Pond coating will seal the concrete. Concrete by nature is porous. You will need the pond liner to keep the water in. Won't bother the visibility a bit as it is not on the glass

There are a few different types of sealant to be used when doing the window, but that can depend on what type of concrete sealer you will use.
