I am very angry at the newest addition to my shoal!!!! I came home from the mall today and I go say hello to my fish and I see that my largest P's eye had been bitten and now I am assuming it will be blind in that eye for the rest of it's life! I know it was Charles..... Jason and Freddy are best friends and Jason is the little cuddly one of the bunch. How long will it take for his eye to heal and what should I do to keep it from getting infected?

Nice naming your piranhas after classic horror characters but wheres micheal =P and add some pimafix that should help speed up the process

i have never had a piranha loose an eye but have had them chomped so bad that food goes in the mouth and out the bite hole in his stomach. I did not use any chemicals because i have read on here numerous times that P's are fast healers and do not require them.
But what do i know other than what others have told me they know.

BTW the guy that had his stomach chewed off survived and was fully healed 2 weeks later

not to be rude, but it drives me crazy when people talk about their fish this way. especially with piranhas. There is no way you could know which fish did this, they are carnivorous very aggressive animals that attack each other for reasons that we as humans simply cannot always understand. The truth of it is, piranha will sometimes attack each other, plain and simple. That is the risk that comes with keeping the species. As far as them being "best friends" piranhas do not make friends, the shoal for reasons regarding safety and food, friendship has nothing to do with it.
rant over.

One way to understand it is to realize piranhas don't shoal or school like other fish. Piranha groups all just form an uneasy truce with each other and that they can and will turn on each other

Well yeah I agree with you there there is no way i could 100% know what one did it but my money is still on charles cause he often attacks the other two who have rarely attacked eachother in the entire time i have kept them. I like to personify my fish, and I do admit I was making more than a stretch when I said "best friends" They often swim together and are the least aggressive towards eachother, that's really it. I have this thing where I talk about my fish in a more endearing way than they actually are.
