Right. So I'm trading in my 6ft for a new 8ft.

I have to think about getting a sump or not, one way I will have up to 2 or 4 canister filters (depending on the volume) which I do like, I think they are pretty good at doing their job, 2 I will have in filtration, wool carbon wool etc…

The other 2, I will have the biological rocks etc. (I’ve never been a huge fan of bio-balls)
Would this be a better option opposed to having the holes drilled and having a sump I have a sump at the moment and to be honest with you, I don’t like it

For filtration ::

I was looking at getting the Fluval FX5 3500lph or similar. (you can work out the gph yourself Americans!)

I may add a cheapo 1000 or 1200 lph for wool or something also.

for biological

either 1 or 2 Sacem Marathon 1500lph with bio rocks

I am looking to stock

2 redtail cats,
1 or 2 silver aro
1 or 2 aligator gars.
And maybe add some other gars and pacus maybe a few silver dollars etc.. just random middle dwelling fish.

Black background. Black rock.

The only downside is I would have to put the heater into the actual tank instead of the sump, but you know I don’t really care that much,

Can you put heaters under the gravel? :/

I would love to know what you guys think of this little problem I have…
I would like to know your opinions of the idea of this high end canister filter or if you know of better/high end canisters out there..

Sump or canister?

Cheers!

I'm sold on wet/dry filters.
no canister is better in my opinoin.

wet/dry.

Sumps are more flexible, easier to clean, and they increase your total water volume resulting in a more stable system.

You can also keep all your unsightly equipment in there ;)

I have an 8x2x2 which has two eheims and no sump (old tank which I got cheap, no predrilled holes for wet/dry etc).

I would go with wet/dry, better biological filter and much easier to clean. Getting the canisters out from beneath the tank is a pain in the ass.

I do both. My sumps are undersized but hold all the ugly equiptment. Sumps are easier, better. IMO. I just happend to buy the canisters first so I still use them.
