My jags spawned and the one that I was told looked to be a female didn't do the laying. The smaller one was the one that had the long tube and it laid eggs. The other one I didn't see fertilize the eggs and it ate a lot of the eggs. The larger one keeps cleaning the nest and chasing others away. While the female wont leave the egg site. They also do some pushing flaring and mouthing of each other in the nest. So I will post pics of the pair and see what thoughts you have on the "male". I have not vented them other then the for sure female I saw her tube dropped and saw her laying eggs. They built the nest together so I would assume the other one is a male and it had a shorter tube out. They just selected a spot that is hard to see.

sbus if all the eggs turn white in 3 days they were not fertilized. Mine spawned a month ago and the eggs were not viable. Those Jag are like convicts; they like to spawn.
 
After I turned on the light this morning I think I have determined that I have a lezbo pair of jags. They built the nest together defend it together and the "male" let her tube slip out this morning and was very embarrassed about it because it was impossible to get a clear pic. You can see the egg tube dropped on the bigger one in this pic.

LoL, well now all ya gotta do is find a stud and convert one of them.
 
And the search is on. I took out the rock they both laid on and gave it to my tetras. They bite kinda hard for such a small fish. I added my smaller dovii to the tank. I believe with all the blue it has it is a male. I have 3 female jags and the "male" dovii. Maybe I can make a hybrid. All the while I am looking for a male jag or two.
