my beautiful DIY acrylic sump decided to pop a seam last night, and dump around 50 gallons on my carpet. I guess this is why the capilliary cement is not recommended for aquariums! (I found this out AFTER I'd built and installed the sump)

Not sure on my repair method yet. I'm thinking I'll solvent weld some strips into all the corners. What a piss off.

On the bright side...you now know one more thing that DOSN'T work...So it IS at least a net gain...

LMAO

Glass half full, or half empty?;)
Such optomism here. :D:D

lol. well. Everything else held up OK. I think the seam might have been weak or something. I do have some more acrylic, and some weld-on 16. Hopefully I can get the work part of the repair done tonight, and have the thing ready to go back into service by the weekend.

Thank god I bought an FX5, too. I still have my old sump but putting that POS back into service would be a serious PITA

I can take pics tonight... not much to see really - it's a bottom seam that seperated, and it only bowed out by 1/16" or so... more than enough to flood my carpet, but not catastrophic.

This is the sump I'm talking about - I built it about a month ago:

Damn shame - beautiful piece of kit you built there - hope you get it fixed.

Man, that sucks. Sorry for your pain.
