What is the most money you guys have spent on one fish, what is the current tally you have spent on your largest tank with the fish you have inside of it? Don't hold back because there has to be some huge numbers out there....Currently i am in my second (serious) year of fish keeping and i have probly spent about 2500 bucks in total in those two years. And thats only because two of my 33 gal tanks were donations and i paid less then half price on a used 55 gal tank.

Im a cheapo! I only have about $200 invested in my 300 setup and the most i paid for my fish are:
$100 for my 24" arowana and $40 for my 17" chinese perch:D

btw i moved this to general discussion for more veiws. Thanks!!

I can't comment on costs, because I've been a hobbyist for over 30 years, and over that time, I've collected a lot of stuff from auctions, garage sales and even the garbage.

I can comment on 'where does it stop' though. I had the opportunity to set up a new store with over 100 tanks. I decided the setup for every tank (substrate, rocks, driftwood, fish etc) and I had the entire stock of a new store to choose from, and about a dozen fish & plant suppliers. I had a reasonably unlimited budget to do this, so it was rather entertaining (to say the least ;~). The point is that after I finished that, I started filling floor tanks for more fish, biotopes ideas, promotions etc. I was well over 100 tanks and for each tank I set up, I was already planning the next one. I don't think I would've slowed down with anything less than 200 tanks (but I started running out of room in the store).

So my advice is: be afraid, be very afraid ;~).

in four years i have amassed 16 tanks, largest at 125, one being salt. Most spent on one fish was 60 for a arowana and the same for a Frontosa. I would put the number easily in the $5000 range, and that is mostly fish, all my setups are pretty low tech.

7 tanks in 2 1/2 years...... Most of my fish I've bought cheap as juvies and my lfs has 25% off everything in the store every once in awhile so I'll hold out on something expensive until the discount.......
