Just paid $20 for an 8" Elephant nose and it died 30 min later. No gaurantee. I was really excited to have one that large. Took it straight home and drip acclimated it and it spazzed out and rolled over the second it hit the water. temp and pH were identical to the store and just a trace of nitrites bc i just did a water change. Prob is, thats the only store i can find the hard-to-find fish i like.

Just a quick thought...did you dispose of him already? I've had fish spaz, roll over, and "die" (namely Bala Sharks, Chinese Algae Eaters, and Glass Cats). Come back 30 minutes later and they are right side up and looking fine...don't give up on him yet.

I've had that happen with some of the smaller fish i've bought in the past, some of them were fine and a few may have freaked and looked half dead or even dead...

Then as Jessica mentioned, 15-30min in the bucket and all of a sudden they are swimming around as if nothing happened... so hopefully you didn't get rid of the fish straight away, although by the sound of it it seems like you may have???

An established tank doesn't show any nitrites...........

I agree I have had two mini cycles in my tank and only one of those mini cycles did I see nitrites. That was when I added my drip system so I kind expected to see the trites.

Sorry for you lose man, I hate losing fish.

sorry, i ment nitrates. I watched it for a while hoping he was spazzed but he was already discolored and eyes glazed over.

Damn that sucks to hear... wonder what it was that actually killed him that quickly though...

the store isnt exactly known for clean tanks, but its worth the risk because its the only place in memphis to find the good stuff

Don't you hate it when that happens... i know that happens a lot in HK... certain shops will get really amazing rare fish in, but the water quality is absolutely horrid...

But i guess can't really complain since prices for fish over here are mad cheap compared to most of the prices you guys in the US / Europe pay...
