So what do you all think of the nikon D40?

I'm gettin that for my b-day and it comes with a lense. Does anyone that has one like it or have any +/- about it? Also any pics you have taken with it?

it's a good camera but you should be aware that it doesn't have the ability to auto focus non AF-S or AF-I lenses so lens choices would be limited unless you don't mind manual focusing.

As a DSLR camera i think its a good camera. Very good for people who want to get into amatuer photography. However if you're getting it to primarily take pics of fish its a bit shiet. Because of the lack of ability to auto focus

Good camera but it's limited on lenses and they're expensive. If you plan on keeping the kit lens you'll be fine. It's also a bit small for me, but that's just personal preference. You'll like it overall though

Good camera, really good buy for the money... down to 300ish here. Think I'd be tempted to try and get the D80 for a bit more money. Could just buy the body for cheaper and then buy lenses seperate, I've heard the lenses that come with it aren't really worth it if your going to buy your own. Guess it depends on what you'd want with it... I've seen some awesome shots taken with the D40.

D80 is an excellent investment. I would recommend buying used lenses to save some cash. I deal with these guys www.jackscamera.com (they're local). Excellent service and their use lenses look new.
