this female flowerhorn i got at a gold coast aquarium society meeting... it was sold to me as a male! i'm almost certain it's a female because she wants to pair off with the larger male mayan cichlid in the same tank. should i let them and see what the babies would look like, or should i remove her and pair her off to the younger male flowerhorn (i'll post pics of him tomorrow)? the only thing that i'll need to do is raise the temperature and remove any eggs so they don't get eaten...

my profile pic is of her a few months ago, here are two pics and a vid that i took today:

the Mayan she wants to pair off with is in the bottom left corner

As you can see, her fins arent long and flowing because of her tankmates... once, i had to seperate her, and her fins started to grow out more, but i had to put her back in here... pics of her possible mate tomorrow!

[edit] the pictures arent working!!! :( try plugging in ************* in place of the stars in the browser.... why wont it work???

I think you should get the flowerhorn and mayan their own tank if you plan on breeding them. They can hybridize if the sexes are right but they will not produce anything desirable. You should really not be mixing flowerhorns with africans to begin with. It is not going to work out in the long run.

yeah, that's what i was thinking... she's starting to get a little more pushy with the smaller fish... giving them the "predator eye" as i like to call it. i'll probably be moving her soon.

what type of flowerhorn is she anyway?

It's a zz type (zhen zhou) red dragon. Usually a female would have a black flower spot in the top dorsal fin which leads me to believe it's a male but I could be wrong. Glad you know what is coming I wasn't trying to be pushy just let you know you should probably get her out before she starts killing off your collection.
