People at my LPS say to do 25% water changes every 20-30 days. people here say 50%.... what is it?

with that stock, u most likly nedd very little. depends on ur water quality
honostly with a planted tank, depedning on the amount of plants and the fact u have very few small fish(correct?) u might not have to do more than 1 a month and a small one at that. Harleyk does 1 every 6 months in his one heavily planted tank. I used to have a tank that i only topped off evap because of the volume of plants and so few fish

check your nitrates. If they are at 40ppm a 50% will brink them down to 20ppm figure out how long they take to come back up.

Most people here do 50% weekly. But thats dealing with much more waste than what your 12 little guys produce.
Plus live plants nullify alot of nitrates. Id say 20%wc a week to keep ideal conditions.
