Round 1 went to aro #1 so I separated them, this was a week after getting them. I had come home from work and the biggest aro cornered the other 2 little black aro's and wasn't letting them out. Now I believe they are all healthy and done with thier qt.
My question is at what size will I be able to try putting them back together ? They are rapidly outgrowing the current housing 2 20's and a 30 and.
I would like to put them all in my 135 until I have the next tank set up [am picking it up this afternoon] at that point the 135 will become the sump.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated !

8 hours $50 in fuel and $35 in food and I am back home with the next tank. It is still dirty and needs a good vinager bath but it is home all 92.25 24 X 36 of tenecor acrylic. It came with a old canopy that needs some work to get back in top shape and I had to leave the stand because it would not fit in the truck with the tank. The aquarium volume calculator says it is a 345 but I dont know if that takes into acct. the acrylic thickness so I am going to call it a 300 gallon tank. :grinno:

20 oz. coke bottle on top for size reference. This is also not the stand, it is a stand I built to lift my motercycle to work on.

I don't know if the black aros can ever be put together to be honest. I think if they start fighting, no matter what size you put them back together, they will always fight. My best answer would be:

  1. Keep the alpha black and sell the other two.
  2. Sell the alpha black and try the other two as tankmates.
  3. Wait until they're 6-7" and put them back together and see what happens. Although I think there might still be fighting.

I like option 3 that won't be long till they are 6" Also I am wondering if the aggression was caused by the cramped living quarters three 4" aro's in a 20 gl. qt. tank the 300 may have enough space they wont care any more.

Any one else ?

I say try again with the bigger tank they might stop with all that space

For mature arowana, yes. This tank will make a nice growout for a couple years though. Good luck and hope the fighting is subdued in the big tank. Put in lots of floating plants and they each will take their own little territory. Though as they grow their territory will need to be bigger, so the may start fighting again down the road.

a aro comm is all about how much fighting you are willing to put up with

they will always fight

I am leaning more and more this way.

Long term I completely agree.

Correct this is only the mid term tank. I have lots of frogbit and red root floaters, enough to cover most of the surface of this tank but they may interfere with the sump overflow I will have to see. Some dwarf water lilly's and water lettuce would be ok too.

Hmmm Would you say that there is more or less agression than large cichlids in the same tank ? Also do you think adding 2 or 3 more would spread out the agression or complicate things ? I am planning to add my chocolate cichlids when the aro's are big enough the male chocolate is about 8" now and maybe a tig. by next year.

Thanks for all the input ! Any one else want to chime in ?
