hi-
i thought id start a trhread where one can talk about his best investments in this hobby. like, it could be filters, heaters, water conditioners, gravel vacs, and stuff like that. it could be anything- even that utility bucket and vac that keeps that tank clean and healthy! for example, if its a heater, then say its a hydor 200 watt heater that bought for like 20 shibangs 5 years ago. stuff like that- sorry folks, no critters, just equipment or tanks! it could also be equipment thats worked the longest, endured the most, cost the cheapest or cost the most!
well, here we go! ill start!

5. gravel vac and that ugly tan bucket. had em for ages and they cost 5 bucks new!
4. eheim 50 watt heater- water is exact for years.
3. aquaclear 50 powerhead- 5 nonstop years without any problems
2. aquaclear 110 filter- 1 year and it just rocks!
1. novaqua and amquel plus- great for those water changes- never had any problems for the cost!

so, thats me! now, let's hear it from you! give the 5 best investments in the hobby!
im waiting!

-all those bags of fluorite... well over $100 for some friggin busted rocks... 3 hours of washing (pasta strainer and a garden hose.. the tank was clear in under 5 minutes.. well worth the time)

o ther than that... nothing has really cost all that much money... though i did spend like 6 hours going to ever friggin dollar store tryin to find pot scrubbers... $20 later...

- my first filter was a penguin biowheel HOB for a 55 gallon tank. It is still running PERFECTLY, has NEVER been loud once, and it has been running STRAIGHT for 10 years now.

I don't really have anything other than that. The heater has been working for 10 years too, but I have no idea what kind it is.

lets see

laguna nets
python
prime are really the only things that are great to me

FX5
Python
Prime
and a
Therapist

Prime
Python
XP3
Emperor 400
Stealth visitherm

Prime
- There are other products available but they don't have SEACHEM on them ;)

Magnum HOT and BIOWHEEL
- Bought the biowheel half price at a store liquidation before I knew what it did and how it worked. No FW system should be w/o a biowheel.

My House
- Monster tanks in apartments r hard

Finally breaking down and getting 'enough' light
- Nothing brings a tank alive better than proper lighting

55gal premix drum for my marine WC
- Ever tried to premix salt as needed 5gal at a time? :nono:

waste of money IMO... you are paying for water, I would invest in a rubbermaid tub or garbage can and mix in that...

for me it was
1 python 25.00 new and never spills a drop.
2 marineland 150 gallon tank w/ stand, lights, glass hoods 400.00 used
3 fx5 189.00 new
4 100 lbs 3m color quartz aggregate
5 fish: 2 oscars@ 1.5" 8.00, 2 gold sevs @ 2" 4.00, jaguar @ 1.5" 5.00

after a long day at work, just waking up, or just sitting and watching my fish is just so relaxing and enjoyable. my kids enjoy the tank as well as wc time lol:ROFL:. besides its cheaper then a therapist and much more rewarding:grinno:!

The only two good investments that have helped a lot was the Rena XP3 filter that does a great job and a heater I added.
