IDK my eel-tailed cats well at all. If you are talking about eel-tails in general then yes people keep them, especially in Australia. I got two too.

Oooo I think that is the right sp! It's my first time seeing the golden ones around. I've seen the black/grey ones at an aquarium before. They look real interesting, thought I'd share. 
it could be highly possible that they are farmed.. they aren't exactly super expensive either. are they easy to keep? Look pretty fun to watch.
They should be easy and hardy and not fussy in general but I've no experience with this particular species.
Are they outgoing? Active? How are they with tank mates in your hands?
