I used to have a datnoid that would watch me all the time. He would follow my hand, play in front of the glass, beg like a dog, shake his head back in forth when he knows its DINNER time ;). I'm looking for a fish (definitely doesn't have to be a cichlid btw) that exhibits this behavior and is compatible with discus, tetras, pleco, rams, gobies, gudgeons, a guppy, dwarf jewel cichlid, cuckoo catfish, synodontis petricola, etc. And reaches decent size. Got any suggestions? Keeping in mind tank is heavily planted, fish can't eat plants or eat the inchling tetras.

You know of any fish like this?

Only thing that comes to mind are angelfish. I've had some that where responsive but not Oscar or red devil responsive. But they would mix well with your current fish

My Flowerhorns are very responsive/interactive.
Both just beg for food and will finger chase, however they wouldn't work with those fish 99% of the time.

Would even go so far as to say screw the little fishies... and to get rid of my monster bushynose pleco. If their were no teeny tiny fishies and the murderous plecostamus was given away what else would work? Tank still planted.

Smallest fish would be a 2"-3" german ram. And might even give him away. So then maybe smallest 3". No hyperagressive dovii-like fishes plz.

Maybe.... probably not actually. I've had an angel before, their not much more interesting than my discus. Which are completely unresponsive. And seem to ignore me completely. Royal PITA.

Blood parrot if you are not adverse to Frankenstein's monsters :) I'm not. And they don't have the mouth to destroy plants of kill thier smaller tank mates and are highly intelligent and interactive and reach a softball size.
