Over the weekend I introduced a great looking longear sunfish that I caught to my 75 gallon. My primary reason for setting up the aquarium is to keep longears. I already had a warmouth and a redspotted sunfish in the tank. The warmouth is the tank boss, he'll flare his gills, and if necesarry give chase if another fish is in his space, but once the other fish gets out of his face he leaves them alone. The redspotted isn't being so considerate. He's chasing the longear heavily, and when he gets the longear backed up to the glas he starts hitting and picking on him. My longear was pristine when I put him in the tank, but he now has some frayed fins and has had some scales knocked loose.

Have any of you had any luck removing an agressor fish to a seperate tank for a few days to a week to let a new fish acclimate, then re-introducing them? I think I'm going to try this. The longear and redspot are about the same size, and I'm hoping that if the longear has a chance to get comfortable and stake out his own space, the redspot may not bug him so much on return.

I have had luck removing the agressor and adding again about a week later once the new fish has settled, but sometimes something as simple as rearranging the decor can settle the issue.
