How do I get a more social Pleco? Mine just sits and hides until the lights go out. I've seen some at pet stores that are actually swimming around the tank withthe other fish and don't care about light, they'll even eat algae off stuff with the light on. Also ive seen videos of a person putting their hand in the tank and the pleco swims up and starts suckingat their hand. How does this happen!?

My common is out all the time and will hand feed from us. Swims upside down during feedings eating from the surface.

All my other L numbers stay hidden till lights out.

I took a piece of slate and rubber banded some blanched spinach. Then, I propped it firmly on a piece of driftwood out in the open. He spent the day rasping it down to the rock.

Two thoughts: how long have you had this fish? Maybe it needs time to settle in and get comfortable.
Another thought (somewhat counter-intuitive): give the fish a good place to hide; with a nice cave or something, it may feel more comfortable to come out, at first just at the entrance of the hiding place. Also maybe add some floating plants for cover.

My wolf was extremely shy for the first 3 days i have had him, he stayed in his cave. I didnt see him really at all, and now I see him swimming and thrashing about fairly often. Having the fish know it can get away if it wants to, is a big part.
