Being retired, I live on social security and my 401k plan profits. Without those I'd be either working or eating my pets.

I read about a study today that shows over 90% of stock market gains happen while Congress is in recess.
I could subsist on social security, barely, but I really live off of my stock market profits.
The more they do, the less I profit.

A similar study in Australia showed the same thing.

We need to limit govt time in session to the absolute minimum possible. The less work those bastoids do the more money we make!

I use to live off the profits of my investment, day trading and crypto trading. Since bitcoin took a plunge and we have crazy people in charge I decided to cash out before it really affected the market. I now live off the profit on one of my small businesses and work the bare minimum :naughty:

Well I took about a 40% hit back in 2008.
All that feel good rhetoric of the times turned out to be nothing more.

But I took my licks and in the end it paid off.
I can't say that I wasn't very nervous at times, but it was never really a serious enough concern until my eyesight forced me to retire.

Gold futures went up, but gold took a hit.
I'm not heavy in metals. I made 0.16% today while the DOW lost 0.086%.
I used to daytrade back when I was chained to a PC but I never did as well as my broker does.
The guy earns his cut.

I remember that Steve Jobs pizzed me off bad back when apple was at $20 and I sold it all.
The guy was a total frakken jerk. He really screwed over his engineers, because of his bad business decision. He didn't want to take the hit & look bad in front of his Jet Set buddies.

When I told that story on the Motley Fool they awarded me "The Hat".
I think Apple was over $200 at the time.

Fluctuations in the market are a necessary evil. Smart investors see the down swings as buying opportunities. Allot of people i know made small fortunes after the 2007/2008 crash unfortunately i didnt lol at the time we were going through a rough patch financially and werent able to capitalize. I was telling anyone with ears to buy stocks like aig or citi and the rest of the big institutions that saw huge dips in price. Today those people are pretty damn happy

Crashes/recessions/down swings are cyclical and without them there would be no entry point into allot of blue chips stocks for regular joes (the middle class)
