socolofi and labs can't form hybrids right?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
hm......so if i have a female socolofi, it could potentially mate with my male lab? i'm just asking this because last night i saw the 2 of them next to each other and then they started swimming in a circle, but today my socolofi doesn't have any eggs, so i do not know what they were doing last night.

They can and if interested enough will. I've had yellow labs and socolofi hybridize with eachother as well as M. greshakei.
Mbuna or Malawi's in general aren't very particular about who they'll spawn with. If they look similar enough (sometimes even that goes out the window) and they get the urge they'll go at it. That's why proper stocking (proper numbers and sex ratios) is important to many Malawi keepers.
Getting hybrids isn't too big of a deal so long as you don't plan on distributing them.

They'll be fine growing up together but for the sake of pure lines mixing them isn't the best idea.
What exactly is it you plan on keeping fry from?
Yellow labs, Socolofi (blue or white?) and labs x socolofi?

the socolofi are white. i want more lab fry then hybrid fry. maybe only 3 hybrids. but i want to keep at least 6 or more of the lab's fry. i only have 1 10g tank that i can use as a setup for breeding fry, but i can get a fry net for the hybrids.
