i was hoping to get 3 electric yellows, and 1-2 ahlis. is this too cramped for a 75 gal aquarium? if so, what fish is recomended as tank mates?

I think you'll be okay unless your ahli(s) decide to be bullies. I've seen them do fine with more mild-mannered peacocks and Tangs and I've also seen them rule tanks full of Pseudothropheus spp. Same with the labs. Just make sure you load the tank full of rock so they're not all fighting over the same prime "real estate."
I would go with some metriaclima "msobo", red zebras, the socolofi, and some cynotilapia afra cobue. I think you could go the way you wanted but I would only get 1 alhi (actually a fryeri) and you could increase your number of socolofi and yellow labs to 8-10 each.
ok. well i really enjoy the ahli that i had before it "disappeared" the week that my sister was in charge of the house because my parents were out of town and i was at a waterpolo meeting with my high school. aren't fryeri the same as ahlis? so i already have 3 electric yellows that i just got a few hours ago and they are really cool and active. but i should get 5 more? and then i have 1 socolofi and i guess i will consider getting some females. right now it kind of rules my tank. even my JD is terrified of it.
STOP. Wait to buy more fish until the 75 gallon is set up. Dont keep cramming them in the 29. They will get picked on and/or killed.AquariumLover;1267659; said:
Fryeri and considered true Ahlis. The Ahlis you see in stores are most likely other morphs of Fryeri. True Fryeri are white tops.
