I am about to get a large spiney soft shell turtle. I currently have a aquarium set up that was used as a fish tank. It has pool filter sand (silica). I was wondering if this was too rough or jagged for a soft shell turtle? Should i get something finer? Any suggestion on something cheap?

He'll love it! The only problem is that he might dsturb it a good bit; I suggest prefilters on intakes for any power filters, pumps or powerheads.

Good point. I would make sure the intakes are at least 6+ inches above the sand.
