I found a new born soft shell turtle in the grass next to the road outside my house and have it in a 10% filled 10gal. with a few natives and wanted to know if they need a uv light to survive or if i could just bring it inside and put it in one of my smaller tanks as a more stable enviornment since it is outside right now. if not, i'll just let it go in my home pond and let it do whatever it wants. Please help.

I would put it in the pond. They do need uva/uvb for calcium/d3 production. Or you could bring him inside and get some uv lights.

aight thnx ill put him in the pond along with the little natives-soon to be feeders.

i think cichla said enough to answer your questions and i agree with his response

keep it in the tank, better yet go buy a glass 55

buy a zoomed powersun light bulb

its heat and uvb/uva in one bulb, they are very effective and produce higher levels of uvb and A than tubes.

if you keep it outside in a pond you run the risk of it being taken by predators because of its small size.

raise it indoors until it reaches a decent size then go ahead and put it in the pond
