I recently moved into a house I bought from an apartment. Moving a 55gl tank sucked but we made it through well. I had hard water at my apartment and when I moved in this house the water softner wasnt working. Now it is fixed. The water in the town I live in now is so bad the softner is needed. Daughter and I couldnt comb our hair with out it LOL
My question is... what impact does this have on my freshies? Is it a safe amount of salt? I guess I am not sure how much salt it puts in the water. I know some lower levels are safe for fresh fish. Do you think it would build up over time in their tank?
I have an outside spicket that is not soft water but it is very cold water and for a 55gl tank I would have buckets all over sitting around warming up to use. Also I plan to put in a 120gl tank very soon as my pleco has become a monster.
I keep a low PH around 7ish. Do water change of at least 30% once a week, tank has been established for 1.5yrs. No plans to add any fish (when I do the bullhead eats them)
Even as far as I am pushing my 55gl with them growing (bought all of them as little babies) you look at my tank and think I own a few tetra LOL They all have their logs to go hide in.
I house in a 55gl
2 8" pictus (white pim, spotted pim)
1 9" common pleco
1 5" spotted bullhead
1 8" Vampire Pleco L007
1 8" Rainbow Shark
8 various tetra
I have the 120gl tank. I am just looking for some supplies for it to get it going. I NEED to get it up and some of these fish moved out. My pleco grew several inches in the last 6mo it is crazy and since all he does is poop I can tell the maint. has gone way up to deal with it.
What fish would be best to go to the 120gl? The pleco for sure. Why I got the 120gl tank to begin with. The bullhead is my next bet since he is growing and they eat anything. Will the pleco be okay with him as he grows? Vampire pleco be okay with the bullhead? The common pleco doesnt do anything to the vampire pleco they ignore each other.
The pictus do very well in the 55gl and thought about leaving them in there. They are done growing.
Thanks!
