I have a 150g tank with a Tire track eel and a Black ghost knife I have well water and have had vary good luck with my tank.
But recently I had to install a water softener so my hardness has gone from 300gh to 25gh, And i have plumed in water lines so that I can add the correct temperature every water change its a vary handy and simple way to maintain my tank.
My question is can my fish survive in soft water? Thanks

Are you using salts in the water softener? Auto-cleaning?

Could you plumb in a cold water pipe from before the softener and add hot to mix?

If you make the shift to soft water very slow they should adapt.

Yes, I am using salt in the water softener and it is on an automatic regeneration.
A real slow transition is what I was thinking too.
I seen on another post about when a regeneration is taking place is is not wise to do a water change because of the possiable salt bleed through, i have my regeneration set for 2:00am so I sould be safe.
If misunderstood what i read please correct me. thank you

You got it dead on.

Purge the length of the pipe or and hose before W/C's dright after regen. cycle and you should be fine.

What no pix? :D
