Does anybody know if having a water softener effects the quality of the water for better or worse? Or do fish need hard water? What do you guys use for removing chlorine, anything?

some fish need hard water and some fish don't like hard water it all depends on what type of fish you have. As far as removing chlorine there is several products that do it I use a power chemical called perfect Ph 7.0 it brings the Ph level to within 6.9 and 7.1, it removes chlorine and hard metals in the water. And there is another chemical called Prime it takes out the chlorine and gets the nitrate and nitrite levels in a good range too.

I have a water softener and I am looking forward to NOT having all of that hard water mineral build up everywhere on my tank and filters.

Like mentioned already some prefer hard some prefer soft. I've researched a ton and it appears if acclimated slowly most aquarium fish can live in soft water.

I'm also using Potassium Chloride pellets so that I can use my water change water in the yard or for house plants.
