solar heater?

not sure if this goes here or in DIY. move if needed anyways so my front house door faces direct south. when the sun is out if you open the door the air between the screen door and the front door is HOT. what if i get another door for winter, paint it flat black, cut a slot near the bottom and one near the top. i would put some way to close the slots after the sun goes down. would it be worth the efurt for the heat or a ugly pain in the hindend?

That sounds like a lot of work for very little return. I don't totally understand your concept though.

the outside of the door and the air inbetween gets hot, hot air rises pulling cooler air from in the house into the air gap to be heated and flows out the upper slot.

The concept is sound. I think you'd just have a little warm spot above your door though.

think so? seems to me it might actually do some flow. pulling in cool air from low pulling warmer air down

To get a reasonable flow I think you'd need quite a bit more volume.I mean, the space between an entry door and a storm door could only be a couple cubic feet.

I hope it does work well. I'm not really a home heating pro anyway. It stays warm always where I live. Good luck with it.
