Sold as a spiny eel

Bought this guy around 4" as a spiny eel. What kind of spiny eel is it? I'm leaning towards peacock but I'm no eel expert. Sorry pic is not the best. Got home late.

Thanks. Now I get confusing sizes when I looked it up. Some say 12" and others say 6-8". What is the normal size that I can expect?

6 to 8 range

Mine has been with me for close to a year and is only like 5"

That's good to know that they stay around the 6" mark. Just got done feeding him blackworms and I'm surprised that he ate after 1 night in his new home.

you should really get some sand for him mine loved hiding in the sand

Looks like Macrognathus aculeatus, to be exact. Its basically another species of peacock, like what was said above I wouldn't expect more than 8in.
