I was thinking about adding tankmates to my future arowana tank, and I'm stuck on whether or not to add a couple tankmates here and there(stingrays, clown loaches, fancy plecos, dat, etc.). But the look of a lone giant arowana swimming all by itself looks pretty good too, not to mention no nip fins. So species aro tank or add a couple fish here and there?

Mostly preference here. Also you have to be aware that an arowana that has been kept alone for a while might be very aggressive towards new tankmates, especially if there is a big size difference. :)

Personal opinion. I personally perfer thinks is sick when you have aros crusing the top and stingrays on the bottom, might not always work out though.

:iagree:

the tank may look so lonely with just one fish.

A single aro with some big bottom dwellers like rays or polys always looks good. You should post some pics of your 15 reds, that tank must be amazing!

If you're worried about the aro being damaged you could keep it with smaller more passive tankmates, like geophagus.

Lol, not all 15 in one tank, i can't find a tank that big. Only small ones in tanks, the rest are in 300 gallon rubbermaid tubs.

at least a bottom dweller ... let's say a cool pleco heheheheh stingrays have been known to eat aros and aros are known to cripple rays ... i have not heard any horror stories about pleco/aro yet ^^

Solitary is cool ... i always wanted a solitary but somehow went over board <sigh>

LOL not just cripple, Ive personally seen my red and old retic fight for a shrimp and red ATE the retic...was actually kinda scary...retic was like 3" and the aro was almost 2 ft long...not a smart combo.

one of the mods had various pix of ray eating various fish ... aro included ^^ i am luckier, the aros do not bother the ray at the bottom =P
