Hello, I would like to begin by saying that I am a young male and keeping an aggressive fish appeals to me at this age. I have a 5 gallon tank that I would love to put something nasty in, a species that ins't particularly friendly and doesn't mind being alone in a small space. Please don't recommend a betta, I have had those before and I don't really want any more. I was considering a small species of crayfish or freshwater crabs, but I thought I would ask if there were any "fancier" options that anyone might now of.

I don't think there is anything that fits that profile that will survive in a tank that size. It would probably be best to try and get a larger aquarium. I may be wrong and maybe a more seasoned member can chime in here.

I totally forgot about puffers, I used to have some when I was younger. I'd still like to see what others have to say, but maybe i'll investigate a shrimp tank instead. Thanks guys!

Exodons? Would be cool.

Exodons definitely wont work, if you are thinking shrimp, look into some different crayfish. Most will eventually outgrow that tank other than dwarf marble crays(forget the name) but would be a good growout tank for a bigger cray if setup properly. Just be sure to have a solid lid
