These are from a fishing trip I took to Bolivia. Ended up with 12 Payaras landed, with at least three times that many more hooked and lost. They have very hard bony mouths that are difficult to keep a hook in, especially when they jump. Single barbless hooks were the key; next time I think my landing ratio will go up a lot just using those.

Payara are extremely strong since they live in current. Probably the greatest freshwater gamefish I have caught.

Great photos,looks you had a wild time down there.I would love to have one of those fangs to go in my collection of teeth that my armatus have shed.Some of them must be about four inches.

Wonderful experience it must have been. Huge armatus, the one in the 4th picture has a small tail interestingly enough reminds me of a scomb.
