So I was cleaning my tank last night and when I moved the rocks I found out that one of my chiclids had a few babys. 5 to be exact. as soon as I discovered this i immediatly put them in a betta bowl. Then finished cleaning. After the tank was all settled I went out and got a 15g tank for my new little babies. I have a bunch of hide's and the substrate is gravel. Heater's set at 80-84'...and no filter (dont want them to get sucked up)

My question is I know to feed them grinded up flake food, but water changes, temperature, and since i dont know who the mother is... i dont want to put the wrong female in then that one eats them. I just read that the babys feel comfortable with the mother and i dont want them to be stressed. what should i do?
I put up a pic.... but not the greatest. will do later with a diffrent camera

Thank you for your help

As for a filter, you a can use a sponge filter. Or you can get a small HOB filter and cover the intake with panty hose. You can just leave the fry in the 15gal tank...they will be fine.

If i do water changes 3-4 times a week, do i still need a hob filter ?

you just need BB (beneficial bacteria) thus the sponge filter would be good for the tank.

I just bought alot of new rocks for the main tank. and yes they hide very...very well I barely noticed them at first. Its the first time taking care of fry. So I went out and got a grow out tank for them. Didnt want them to get eaten.

Agreed, you could also make your own filter spare thing you have laying around with a air pump, powerhead, or small pump, check the Ghetto DIY Picture Thread for some ideas.

keep in mind, the tank will "cycle"..... maybe for now until it finishes, you should use a breeder net so the fry dont get wiped out by nitrites and ammonia

i used the water from the main tank so that way i didnt have to cycle the new tank. I checked everything first to make sure the water was ok. and no nitrates or nitrites or ammonia. But last nite i made a "ghetto filter" lol. That was a good page and it gave me some idea's...
I took a pump from a fountain I had, and i placed it in the filter bag that had the carbon in it. Then I cut a hole in a pill bottle (washed and scrubbed) and placed the carbon and the tubing in it. Everything worked... and surprising it does an awesome job. Thank you NotoriusSway for that page
