Some Astatheros CA eartheaters

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Looking great as always.

They are looking good! Do you keep them together? I have a female robertsoni and a female rostratus together. I was always advised against this, but I haven't had any aggression problems. I also keep them with t. meeki and t. aureum.

I don't keep them together, have 7 rostratum with 5 Chuco intermedia in one tank, and the 7 robertsoni with about a dozen Cryptoheros nicaraguense in another.

Sorry to say the longimanus females bit the dust, only the is male left.
Some kind of bacterial thing hit the tank, and only the strongest survived.
I don't think nicaraguense has officially been changed, but I've seen some lumpers including it in Cryptoheros here and there lately.
The fact that they are the only Central American with eggs that are not attached kind of sets them apart in my book .

Duane, how do your nics and rostratum get along? I have a female nic, with female rostratum, and female robertsoni. The two seem to gang up on the nic. I never thought I would have that problem. Now I am thinking of separating even though there is no real damage. Stress is stress. Nics and rostratum.

I have never kept the nics and rostratum in the same tank.
I do have the Astatheros robertsoni and some slightly smaller nics growing out at the moment in a 75 gal, with no problems.
I keep my adult nics in their own tank, they are constantly spawning, the 4th spawn in 4 months went free swimming today.
