I decided to ditch the planted tank upkeep battle (I don't mind a lot of maintenance work but the daily BGA cleanup is getting old), so I convinced my wife to let me build a ray tank in the living room!

New tank will be acrylic, DIY based on another member's excellent design & build. Dimensions will be around 34"x80"x30" about 350 gallons - size to be finalized once I talk to the supplier and figure out the sheet cuts.

Two questions -

Will 2 fx5 canisters be enough filtration for 2 motoros in a tank this size? I'm not going to have a lot of room, and need the most efficient option. Stand will only be about 12 inches high so it will be 'couch level', no room for a sump underneath.

What would make good tankmates? My first preference would be a school of maybe 10 angelfish or more. Has anyone done this combo? What other options are there for tankmates?

I do not see a problem with 2 fx5's with 2 motoros. Angelfish would be fine as long as they are not to small for the rays to eat. I personally like red bay snooks and datnoids. There are lots of combos that will work.

Will definitely post the build in the DIY section, but it won't be starting for a few months. Just trying to get the planning done now.

I will have at least one powerhead in there for extra circulation since it will be pretty long.
