Hi folks, I'e had a read around and I'm still not fully convinced with my plan. I've aquired a 86" x 30" x 30" glass tank and need to make a stand for it, it needs to go on carpeted floorboards (Ground floor), my current plan is to make a stand about 25" tall out of breeze blocks, two full sides with four support pillars, potentially more depending on how the blocks cost out, with a wooden panel on the top of it - functional over style.

The current tank (30" long x 15") has a ~5mm back to front level issue but it's on a crappy bought stand so I don't know what to make of that.

As much as I really want a big project ultimately this is a big tank and I don't want to ruin my rented accommodation so if you guys have any doubts or even better some improvements please lay them on! At the end of the day I'd rather leave it for now and add it to my bucket list for when I have my own house :D

Cheers!

If you've building a stand for a big tank on a timber floor I wouldn't use blocks for two reasons; weight, and pressure. Obviously they're heavy and with a 30" tall tank you're already going to be putting a fair load on the floor, and unless you sit the blocks on some sort of rigid frame to spread the load evenly over your joists you will be putting considerable pressure on a fairly small area.

Either timber or steel would be my choice of construction as you can build it to spread the weight evenly over a large area of floor. look up uarujoey on youtube, he's got a good video showing the step by step construction of a nice solid timber stand, if you're not great at DIY you could have the timber merchant cut the wood to length then all you have to do is assemble it.

I'd be reluctant to put a 30" tall tank on a wooden floor without some sort of reinforcement too, but maybe houses in the UK are built more solidly than here.

Build your stand from timber, if you built it like I built mine it will be super strong. And hold lots of weight

Check out the design uaru joey uses on his youtube channel. I made one for my 430 gal aquarium using his design with some extra additional bracing and it's like a tank and made entirely of 2x4's. Watch uaru joey's vid. He does a step by step.

Cheers all, I think overall it's going to be best to leave it, I pulled the carpet up and the floor board beams go opposite to the tank position. I'm disappointing to say the least but one day!!
