Hello all,
I am getting a 120 gallon next weekend. It comes with one Fluval 305 which is obviously not enough. I am new to this and am unsure what to do. Should I not use the Fluval and go buy a Rena XP3 and an Aquaclear 110? (the bigger Fluvals are too pricey for me) Or should I run the 305 and the XP3 with no Aquaclear? Or will I need all three? It also comes with a powerhead.

The tank inhabitants will be bichirs, a few clown loaches, denisonii barbs, rainbowfish etc. Not sure exactly, but there will be some larger fish in there.

just get an ac110 and keep the 305

And that would be enough filtration for a 120 gallon? That would certainly be the cheapest way for me to go.

I run a XP3 on my 100 gallon (just purchased it this weekend actually). I think it could filter that 125 no problem. It's a pretty massive unit...

I have an older Magnum 350 for extra mech filtration if needed. But so far I have not really had to run both, new tank and all.

I run an xp3 and an eheim 2213 on a 55 gallon tank. The xp3 is a good filter but I wouldn't use it by it's self on a 120.

I think the xp3 and the 305 would do a good job though. I'm a big believer in multiple filters that way you can clean one every month or two and leave the other one alone to keep the beneficial bacteria.
