Hey everyone, if I can get a ride out there, I'll be going to the LFS tomorow (If not tomorow, in a few days) to pick up my first bichirs. :headbang2 :headbang2 :headbang2 3 senegals for my 75 gallon. :D I have 3 questions.
1. Is there any specific food I should buy? I usually feed Hikari and I heard Massivore is good, but they will be juvies...

2. Do they each need their own hiding place? I have 2 slate rocks propped up on other rocks, so that's 2 hiding spots, do I need a 3rd? Or can two of them share. :)

3. This one's an opinion. What do you prefer, 2 regular one albino senegal, or just 3 regulars?

You can feed them lots of different foods, plenty of posts about this, but massivore is fine, all mine love it,just break it up into smaller pieces.
Mine love prawn too,i do put small bits in but if they go for a big bit they tend to rip a bit off.
Hiding places, mine all tend to cuddle up together in different parts of their tanks but put as many in as you like.
And ive not got an albino so i say get one of those because i will if i see one:D

Good luck

steve

Hikari carnivore is smaller massivore. They might still need to be broken up though depending how small the sens are. Floating plants make good cover too. I would add an albino into the mix for sure.

Hikari sinking carnivore is something your LFS should have, or massivore. Also, any shrimp pellets will work, really. I feed mine Soft&Moist w/ Krill pellets from kensfish.com as a staple, along with various other types of his pellets - you can buy in bulk. ;)

edit: you can also buy frozen raw tilapia fillets and shrimp from your grocery store, and as long as they don't have anything added to them, they make a good bichir food.

In my experience, they'd rather stay together. So different hiding spots, while great, aren't a necessity. I'm sure if they are there, they'll use them though.

Personally I like 3 regular sens. It's actually kind of funny... That's exactly how I started my bichir addiction: a trio of senegals. :D

Good luck.

post pics when you get them, you know you could get a couple delhezy too.

dels aren't as common around here, and they cost alot... and I will post pics :D

:swear: Snowstorm today, I can't make it to the LFS... I'll go over the weekend.

Getting at least 1 albino would be good. IMO they look innocent/cute with their faint features, like the albino axolotls. The lips only reveal when u turn on the light!
